Bruno Taschenbier leads an orderly small-town life. The shy umbrella designer is picked on by both his boss and his bad-tempered landlady, Mrs Rotkohl. But one day, Sams enters his life and causes nothing but chaos: a strange little creature with a proboscis nose and red hair, cheeky, loud and untidy.
In 1973, author Paul Maar published his first of ten Sams novels. In it, a very strange creature appeared completely unexpectedly in the market square of Bamberg and outraged the good citizens with cheeky poems and outrageous sayings. The chubby creature with red hair, a proboscis nose and blue freckles was ageless and removed from any stage of life: not a child, not an adult, cheerful and utterly disrespectful. The fact that he chose the shy umbrella designer Bruno Taschenbier as his ‘dad’ was solely due to the fact that Mr Taschenbier gave him a name: ‘Sams’, because it was Saturday. Sams was given his blue (diving) suit complete with fins, and it soon became clear that his freckles were wish dots: With every wish, a dot disappeared from Sam's face, so you had to think carefully before making a wish.
